Day 2

Dolphin & Whale watching

Early morning set off for Dolphin & Whale Watching with breakfast box prepared at the hotel. This could be done by taking a boat ride in the sea off Mirrissa located just 40 minutes drive from the hotel. The best time to spot Blue whales off the coast of Sri Lanka is between December and April. One of the largest living animals on earth, Blue whales can grow up to 100 feet (30 meters) long and weigh almost 200 tons. They are among the Earth’s longest-lived animals with an average lifespan of around 80 to 90 years. When breathing, Blue whales emit a spectacular single-column spout up to 12 meters into the air. They also typically raise their shoulders and blowholes much higher out of the water than other big whales when surfacing to breathe. These two characteristics make Blue whale watching an incredible experience

Galle was once the chief port of Ceylon. It is still well known for hand-made lace. You can also visit the Galle Fort (spanning 90 acres) which was originally built by the Portuguese and later extended by the Dutch in 1663. This is a World Heritage Site. You can even pay a visit to Sri Lanka’s oldest light station dating back to 1848, the Galle Lighthouse. Thereafter en route lunch and explore Rumassala:  Rumassala Hill is just southeast of town and west of Unawatuna beach. It is a thickly forested rocky headland famously fertile with medicinal herbs and claimed, in folklore, to be a small piece of the Himalaya dropped by Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god. A 5km trail takes in a viewpoint near the 1875 British-built lighthouse, the secluded Jungle Beach and the Japanese Peace Pagoda
